日本では、7月7日に「七夕（たなばた）」という、美しくロマンチックな行事があります。
In Japan, there is a beautiful summer festival called Tanabata, celebrated every year on 7 July.
織姫と彦星という、天の川に引き離された恋人たちが、年に一度だけ会えるという伝説にちなんだお祭りです。
It’s inspired by an ancient legend about two star-crossed lovers, Orihime (the weaving princess) and Hikoboshi (the cowherd), who are separated by the Milky Way and allowed to meet only once a year—on this very night.
七夕の楽しみ方 /How We Celebrate
七夕の日には、短冊（たんざく）と呼ばれる色とりどりの紙に願いごとを書き、笹の葉に飾ります。
風に揺れるその姿は、まるで小さな祈りが夜空へと舞い上がっていくようです。
On Tanabata, people write their wishes on colourful strips of paper called tanzaku (短冊) and hang them on bamboo branches. The wishes flutter in the summer breeze, like tiny prayers floating toward the stars.
大人も子どもも、それぞれの思いを文字にします。
「字がもっと上手になりますように」
「大切な人が元気で過ごせますように」
Children and adults alike write things like:
「字がもっと上手になりますように」
“May my handwriting become more beautiful.”
「大切な人が元気でいられますように」
“May my loved ones stay healthy.”
短冊に願いを書くというこの風習は、言葉に気持ちを込める静かなひとときとして、今も多くの人に親しまれています。
The custom of writing wishes on tanzaku remains a quiet and cherished moment for many people, as they put their feelings into words.
